Anyone in need of a little therapy?? Well, I have a relatively inexpensive "pick me up" idea that is sure to light up your senses and your attitude...FRESH FLOWERS!
There is nothing like going to the local flower market, picking out some of your favorite varieties of blooms, and having them gingerly wrap the bouquet in brown paper with a string. Ah! the delight it sends throughout my soul. A prized possession to enjoy, for sure! Some of my favorites are peonies, hydrangea, anemone, ranunculus, hellebore, and of course garden roses. All of these paired with some seeded or silver dollar eucalyptus, create a delightful mix of delicate and bold, with a powerful scent to calm any anxiety you may be experiencing. Don't be afraid to ask for help. If pairing flowers feels a little overwhelming, just ask one of the on-site florists. They are always happy to help with no judgment that you don't know the difference between a snapdragon or a sweet pea. I also tend to buy blooms in odd-numbers. Usually groups of three or five. It tends to work out nicely when putting the final arrangement together, but that is just my preference. You can pick as many as your heart desires.
Next step, get them home and create a beautiful display to enjoy over the coming week, or so, depending on how well you take care of your little treasures.
So, do you feel the anxiety coming back?? Never fear, there are probably 10,000 YouTube videos on how to make the perfect arrangement, but for me I don't get all the fuss of making sure everything is too perfect. I think you can "feel" your way through it. Keep it simple and try not to pack too much into a single vase. I have definitely been prone to do this from time to time, but really less is more. You need to let the arrangement have some breath. Let each bloom have room to shine on it's own, but flourish as a part of an ensemble, as well. Start with the base, the eucalyptus, or other greenery you have chosen for your bouquet. Then start adding the flowers, trying to keep it balanced on all sides. Remember, your arrangement has more than one side. Don't forget to turn it around and make sure it looks nice from every direction. Then add some wispy and whimsical filler. I personally love wax flower, dianthus, and the ever popular baby's breath to finish off the display.
Make sure you put the arrangement in a special place where you can enjoy it and smell the frangrance throughout the week. There is nothing like a beautiful bouquet of flowers to brighten your day and help you forget about all your cares, if only for a little while. It is a fulfilling process with a gorgeous result at the end.
So, if you need to do something to pick up your mood and don't want to spend a fortune, go get some flowers!
